Although geotechnical and coastal engineering have traditionally developed as separate disciplines, there exist important problems involving wave–ground's motion interactions and mutual influences between waves and ground conditions mediated by coastal structures. As a researcher currently working in geotechnical engineering, with a background in coastal engineering from the Takayama Laboratory (now the Mori Laboratory), I will introduce several such interdisciplinary challenges in this presentation.
