A simple empirical model for beach profile change prediction
Abstract
Abstract: Prediction of beach morphology change at scales changing from episodic (storm) to medium-long term is important for coastal management and engineering decision making. Numerous approaches, which are suitable at different time scales are available. Some needs specialist knowledge and intense computing power while some others aren't good enough for detailed predictions. In this study, a simple empirical model were developed to predict key proxies that define a beach profile shape change, taking a process-based models as a tool. The model is then validated with historic data where a reasonable agreement was found. Once validated, the empirical model can be take as a surrogate model for the process-based model.
